VW ID.2 – First prototype pictures of the € 25,000 small car
The VW ID.2 is Volkswagen's long-awaited small electric car. We have the first pictures of the electric small car on test drives for you.
The VW ID.2 is intended to improve the often criticized selection of electric small cars from German manufacturers. The ID.2 is planned to be Polo-sized and it is planned to go on sale in 2026. We have now caught the new car on test drives. Here are the first pictures and all the info.
- Small electric car as an entry point into e-mobility
- Disguised as a "normal" Polo
- Planned performance for 2025
- In terms of price, the ID.2 is to start at less than 25,000 euros
- Expected 50 to 80 kWh battery for approx. 400 km range

VW ID.2 – Exterior
In the pictures viewed, the ID.2 is still camouflaged under stickers and tries to pass as a "normal" Polo. But some central design elements of the already known ID.2 studies can already be seen. Such as the narrow LED light units at the front and rear. But the similarities to the combustion engine brother are likely to be planned, after all, the ID.2 is to become the electric Polo replacement in the long term.

The dimensions of the ID.2all concept car were 4.05 metres long, 1.81 metres wide and 1.53 metres high, and thus very similar to those of the VW Polo (4.07 x 1.75 x 1.45), albeit with a little more space in width and height.

When looking at the rear doors, another ID.2 feature also stands out, the door handles directly on the window. To what extent the later production ID.2 will actually look like the prototype is still unclear, but Volkswagen is more likely to rely on the tried and tested here.
VW ID.2 – Information known so far
There is not yet so much concrete information about the Volkswagen ID.2. In addition to the targeted price below the 25,000 euro threshold, the ID.2 is expected to be equipped with a battery of 50 to 80 kWh. This should give it a range of just under 400 km. The ID.2 is likely to have similar values to the Cupra Raval, which is already known to have a range of 440 km with an output of 226 hp. In addition, the Raval should also be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. It is still unclear whether the ID.2 will be quite as sporty, but the technical details are likely to be similar.

When the ID.2 study was presented, similar values were finally mentioned: front-wheel drive, 226 hp of power, up to 450 km range, acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and a trunk capacity of 490 to 1,330 liters. For the ID.2 model series, there will also be a more robust SUV version as an electric replacement for the T-Cross. Under the name VW ID.2.X, the small SUV is to appear shortly after the ID.2.
When will the ID.2 be available?
According to the current status, the presentation of the ID.2 is to take place in 2025, and a date during the IAA 2025 seems likely. But we can't name a specific day yet.

With the presentation in 2025, the electric car is not expected until 2026. In terms of price, the target is less than 25,000 euros.
